Adopting a vegan lifestyle can be daunting, especially when going back to school. You might come across an overwhelm of social pressures, unsupportive comments, and a ton of other environmental factors to deal with.

But don’t worry, we’re here for you! We came up with our top tips on how to successfully follow a vegan diet as a student. Here they are!

1. Pack your own lunch

As a vegan, you might struggle to find suitable options in your school or college cafeteria. You’re bound to get hungry throughout the day, and with no options around, you might be tempted to go with a non-vegan meal.

To avoid this, it’s best to simply prepare and pack your own food. Not only is it a sure way to stay vegan, but it's also going to be way cheaper and tastier than any food you can buy. Not to mention, it will force you to work on your cooking skills!

2. Wear your message proudly

Schools are melting pots of different ideas, cultures, and philosophies. So why not contribute to that positively by flaunting your vegan beliefs! And the best way to do that is with our vegan message tees.

We stock lots of fun designs in our vegan shop, such as our Vegan Vibes or Future is Vegan tees.

Tees make it easier for others to know what you stand for without actually shouting it out. And it makes for a great conversation starter – who knows, they might help you find your next vegan bestie!

3. Find your tribe

Speaking of vegan besties, you need a few of them in your life. The fact is that veganism is a rewarding, but often difficult, journey to be on, especially alone. There are lots of sacrifices that need to be made, plus other people might not always understand your beliefs.

Having someone by your side that shares your same principles makes it that much easier. You get to cheer each other on, making it more likely for you to stick with the lifestyle for the long haul. You can also recipe swap and try new vegan restaurants together!

4. Be prepared to answer questions

People who don’t understand your choices will inevitably ask questions. Where do you get your protein? Is this really healthy? Don’t you miss cheese? Those are some concerns we hear on a regular.

It’s best to answer such questions with respect and hard cold facts! Don’t get defensive or argumentative, just state your truth calmly and with confidence. Prepare some answers you can always revert to such as a simple yet respectful: “I’ve found that this lifestyle works great for me and I love that I can help out the animals”. Know your “why” and stand in it firmly!

5. Accessorize the vegan way

Going vegan is more than just adopting a plant-based diet. Veganism is a lifestyle that covers everything from the bag that you carry to the soap that you use. Luckily, our vegan store stocks up a whole range of cruelty-free products just for you.

The easiest area to start is with accessories. You can try our vegan backpacks for your everyday school needs, such as our Ariana and Kat Backpacks. They're both fashionable and functional while being cruelty-free!

6. Don’t give up!

Slip ups happen – it's a fact of life. Maybe you didn't know that the food you ate at school had some animal ingredients in it. Or perhaps some school supplies you need to use aren't exactly cruelty-free.

So if you slip up, don’t beat yourself up about it. Take it easy, and just do better next time. If you’re having a hard time adopting the vegan lifestyle, do it slowly, one habit at a time. The important thing is that you move forward into becoming the vegan that you aim to be!
