A healthy body is usually the result of our daily habits – things like eating right and exercising daily. If you neglect this and eat nothing but junk, don’t be surprised if sickness comes your way.

The same is true with our planet.

How healthy or sick it is, depends mostly on the habits of its most prominent inhabitants – humans. If we continue to have unhealthy habits that pollute our environment, the Earth won’t be able to thrive.

Fortunately, we can prevent all that by adopting more eco-friendly habits. From using stainless steel drinking straws to using your car less, here are some of the best ways you can help save our beloved planet:

1. Go Vegan!

Eating only plant-based foods might seem like just a healthy lifestyle for most people. But unknown to many, the switch to being vegan has one of the most significant impacts in saving the environment.

This is because livestock farming contributes up to 60% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, as well as consuming lots of water and land, making it one of the major causes of climate change.

By adopting a vegan diet, you can significantly lower your carbon footprint and slow down or even reverse global warming.

2. Green Transportation

Pollution from cars and other gas-powered vehicles is still a significant factor in global warming. Luckily, there are lots of easy and fun options to help prevent this.

Instead of using your car, why not just ride a bike or even walk? It's healthier, a good source of exercise, and costs $0 to do! For longer distances choose public transportation if it’s available to you – it's cheaper, and you don't have to worry about traffic and parking!

And if you absolutely have to ride a car, why not try carpooling? Catching a ride with others is a great way to save money, reduce pollution, and connecting with friends along the way!

3. Ditch Plastic!

It’s no secret that plastic is pretty bad for the environment. But if you’re like most people, chances are you still use it. And we can’t blame you – today’s modern society has become so highly dependent on plastics, it can be hard to avoid if you’re not mindful.

But now that you’re aware, there are lots of other alternative options. Use a lot of disposable straws? Go for stainless steel straws instead! These reusable drinking straws are not only cost-effective and eco-friendly, but they're also easy to grab on the go!

Other innovative swaps you can go for include string bags for your plastic grocery bags, stainless steel bottles for your water bottles, and silicone wraps for the usual cling wrap.

4. Live Consciously

Because our daily choices shape our planet’s well-being more than anything, it’s crucial that we become more conscious of them. We have to make sure they are doing more good than harm.

Are you drinking a lot of coffee every day? Then bring your own tumbler or mug instead of the plastic cup from the café. Always leaving the lights on? Overconsumption of electricity can increase our greenhouse gas emissions significantly.

We always have the power to help save the Earth, and it all starts with our daily habits.

5. Be As Self Sustaining As You Can

Learning how to live reliably on your own is not only environmentally friendly, it’s also very rewarding. And no, we don’t just mean being able to live and support yourself.

We mean total independence in the purest sense – growing your own food and making everything you’ll ever need yourself, from home-made soaps to clothes. Some are even going completely off-grid and relying on greener and friendlier solar power.

And while it might be too hardcore for everyone, going the self-sustaining route in even the smallest ways can mean a big deal to this world we call home.
